ABOUT COACH RYAN

Ryan grew up in the small hill country town of Boerne, Texas where his love for distance running started. He helped lead the Boerne Samuel V. Champion High School cross country team to back to back state championships in 2008 and 2009, as well as the 2009 Nike Cross National Championship. Lightly recruited out of high school with PR’s of 4:20 in the 1600 and 9:40 in the 3200, Ryan accepted a preferred walk on spot on the Texas A&M University cross country and track & field teams. While at Texas A&M, he produced top ten all-time performances in the 5000m and 10000m distances, finished 6th and 7th in the 10000m at the 2014 and 2015 SEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, and was a NCAA Championship West Region preliminary qualifier at 10000m in 2015. He graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Distribution from the Dwight Look College of Engineering, a minor in Business Administration, and certificates in Engineering Project Management and Engineering Systems Management.

Post-collegiately, Ryan qualified for the 2016 United States Olympic Marathon Trials by running a 1:04:35 half marathon at the Jacksonville Bank Half Marathon. Unfortunately, he was unable to compete at the Olympic Trials due to emergency appendicitis surgery 3 days before the race. He has finished 23rd and 16th at the 2016 and 2017 USATF Half Marathon Championships, owns 5 course records on the roads in Texas as part of the Texas 10 Series. Ryan qualified for the 2020 United States Olympic Marathon Trials by running a 2:14:27 marathon at the California International Marathon, taking 12th place in the 2018 USATF Marathon Championship field. He also set his half marathon PR, running 1:03:46 at the 2020 Aramco Houston Half Marathon

Most recently, Ryan made his ultra marathon debut at the Bandera 100k, taking the win and earning a Golden Ticket to the "Super Bowl of American Mountain Ultra Trail Running", the Western States Endurance Run. In the fall of 2021, he placed 4th at the USATF Half Marathon Trail Championship and 2nd at the Spartan Trail US Ultra Championship. In 2022, he won and se the course record at the Gorge Waterfalls 50k, of which you can listen to a podcast recap. In 2023, he won the inaugural Kauai 50 with the 6th fastest time in North America for the year.

Ryan is looking forward to continuing to utilize his broad range of high level racing and coaching experiences to help goal-oriented runners achieve their dreams. He has coaching expertise and experience from the mile to ultra marathon, guiding road racers, trail aficionados, and high school tracksters to performances and experiences they have only dreamed of.

"Ryan has completely changed my relationship with running from an obligation to my favorite thing each day. He also helps get results. Six months after starting with Ryan, I ran a 1:20 half, over 7 minutes faster than I have ever run before. Ryan's coaching philosophy stresses consistency over killer workouts and effort over splits. This has helped me stack week after week of more mileage than I've ever run, while feeling more healthy than I have in years."

"From the trails to the roads, Ryan is coaching me through it all. No matter what crazy dream I have up my sleeve, Ryan is always able to help make it a reality. What I appreciate most is Ryan's ability to provide extra support and encouragement when I need it. It's our consistent work together that got me to an 8 minute personal best in the half marathon in 2020. I can't wait to see what I'm capable of with my running with Ryan as my coach!"
